The Lakes Curling Club provides recreational opportunities for all curlers. Dedicated to the promotion and the coordination of the sport of curling to provide fun, fellowship and family activities within Detroit Lakes and surrounding communities. The Club was founded in March 25, 1980, starting with thirty Charter Members, which included Officers and Board of Directors. The Club sponsors leagues that compete three times weekly, several bonspeils (curling tournaments), Community Ed Classes, and other special events that include Youth Curling.
From 1981 to 1994, the building used by the Lakes Curling Club was in constant improvement throught the efforts of club members. With the addition of lighting in 1994, the facility largely reached its present state of use. During that time (1987) the Club joined the Minnesota Curling Association.

Lakes Curling Club sponsors three annual bonspiels.
NOTE: A bonspiel is a curling tournament, consisting of several games, often held on a weekend. Until the 20th century most bonspiels were held outdoors, on a frozen freshwater loch. Today almost all bonspiels are held indoors on specially prepared artificial ice.

At 1500 feet, nearby Detroit Mountain Recreation Area offers an explorable terrain with 45 skiable acres, 21 runs, 2 terrain parks, 2 chairlifts, 2 high-speed rope tows, and 2 magic carpet lifts. Snowmobile more than 200 miles of groomed trails in the Detroit Lakes area. Over 50 miles of cross country ski trails are available on public and private property. Don't let cold weather keep you from fishing! Fish houses and equipment are available for rent for winter ice fishing. Enjoy Detroit Lakes winter activities and outdoor fun year-round.
