Enjoy the music of The Concordia Orchestra at The Historic Holmes Theatre, 806 Summit Ave, Detroit Lakes, MN on the evening of October 29, 2023. The EMMY award-winning ensemble takes great pride in its modern and inclusive programming, exploring, and advocating for the music of historically excluded composers. The orchestra prominently features living composers while celebrating the well-known masterworks of the past.
The nationally and internationally acclaimed Concordia Orchestra was founded in 1967. Praised as one of the country’s finest college ensembles, The Concordia Orchestra is winner of the highly competitive American Prize 2018-19, one of the most prestigious competitions for musicians and ensembles. The ensemble has earned two EMMY awards for its nationally broadcasted 2016 Concordia Christmas Concerts productions. The Concordia Orchestra has concertized extensively across the globe, the most recent tours including Spain (2022), Greece (2018), and The Holy Land (2014). The ensemble tours domestically in the U.S. every year and puts a strong emphasis on community outreach and educational experiences and interactions with school and youth symphony programs. The Concordia Orchestra is the resident ensemble of Opera Concordia.
Concordia Orchestra members have gone on to significant professional careers, as well as faculty positions at public schools, colleges and universities nationwide. About half of the students in the orchestra choose to major in fields outside of music. Regardless of career choice, the experience of performing outstanding repertoire for audiences both at home and abroad is among the most cherished memories for alumni of The Concordia Orchestra.
The Concordia Orchestra is under the direction of Associate Professor Dr. Kevin F.E. Sütterlin, Director of Orchestral Activities and The Concordia Opera.
