When it comes to celebrating summer, Detroit Lakes, Mn takes its time lasting an entire week or more in the heart of summer. A Jaycee member is selected to act as Admiral, residing over the extravaganza. One lucky girl is crowned Miss Northwest; she will later competes for the Miss Minnesota crown.

Doc and the Scrubs is a big band based out of Detroit Lakes that was founded in 1991 by Dr. Bob Watson, and is comprised of area musicians, from ages 20 to over 80. The performance is free, though free will donations are accepted. Performances are each Tuesday from June to August.
