Dr. David Ferreira currently enjoys teaching jazz piano and the vocal jazz ensembles at both Concordia College and Minnesota State University Moorhead in addition to leading his own professional jazz trio. He pursued his Bachelor of Music degree at Illinois Wesleyan, has done graduate work at Union Theological Seminary’s School of Sacred Music in New York City and received his master’s and doctoral degrees from the College-Conservatory of Music, University of Cincinnati. Dr. Ferreira is a performing singer, conductor, published composer-arranger and jazz pianist. He performed with the Fargo/Moorhead Jazz Arts Group ensembles for 17 years, and directs the Cathedral Choir at First Lutheran Church in Fargo, ND.

An accomplished classical/jazz saxophonist, bassoonist and composer, Russell Peterson holds degrees from Youngstown State University (Ohio), Le Conservatoire de Bordeaux (France), and Bowling Green State University (Ohio), where he studied with Dr. James Umble, Donald Byo, Jean-Marie Londeix, Dr. Jeffery Lyman and Dr. John Sampen. Winner of numerous prizes, including the top prize at the International Geneva Saxophone Concours, (Switzerland), and first place winner of the MTNA National Music Competition, Mr. Peterson has soloed with orchestras in the United States as well as Europe, including the Dana Chamber Orchestra, (USA), Concordia Orchestra, (USA), Bowling Green Philharmonic, (USA), L’Orchestra de la Suisse Romande, (Switzerland), Collegium Musicum, Basel (Switzerland), The Fargo-Moorhead Symphony Orchestra, The Contra Costa Chamber Orchestra (USA), The Orchestra Conservatorio Superior De M?sica (Spain), The Western New York Chamber Orchestra (USA), and The St. Petersburg Philharmonic, (Russia).

Mr. Peterson is an active chamber musician, performing extensively throughout Europe and The United States with The Transcontinental Saxophone Quartet, and is currently also performing with the Hard-Bop Jazz Saxophone Quartet in Fargo-Moorhead. The Hard-Bop Quartet’s first CD release “DON’T STEP ON YOUR NECK”, is available on Sea-Breeze records and the TSQ’s debut CD “MOUNTAIN ROADS” is available on Albany Records. Russell’s first solo CD “AMERICAN BREATH” is on Barking Dog Records and features the music of David Maslanka, Larry Bell and Peterson. Russell released “Russ Peterson and Friends, Jazz/Rock Saxophone” in Jan of 2010. As an Orchestral player, Russell has served as bassoonist with several symphony orchestras, and is currently principal bassoonist with the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony, as well as bassoonist with t he Fargo-Moorhead Symphony Wind Quintet.

Mr. Peterson has performed with some of the most notable artist in the business: Phil Woods, Manhattan Transfer, Dave Weckle, Peter Erskin, Henry Mancini, Gregg Bissonette, Ray Charles, Wayne Newton, Bill Watrous, Gregg Field, Frankie Valie and the 4 Seasons, Maureen McGovern, Samuel Sanders, The Eroica Trio, Will Kennedy, Frankie Avalon, Tommy Igoe, Nick Brignola, Zoro, Ignacio Berroa, Terri Lyne Carrington, the Four Tops. Mr. Peterson has served on the faculty at Youngstown State University (Ohio), The University of Toledo (Ohio), Minnesota State University Moorhead, The Interlochen Summer Arts Camp (Michigan), The International Music Camp, and is currently instructor of Saxophone, Bassoon ,and Jazz ensemble Iat Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota.

About the Talent:

Eric Martens

Guitarist Eric Martens has been an active performer and instructor in the Midwest since 2003. He currently serves on the faculty at North Dakota State University and as Instructor of Classical and Jazz guitar at Concordia College. Martens has performed with nationally- and internationally-acclaimed musicians such as Ignacio Berroa, Will Kennedy, Terri Lynn Carrington, Gregg Bissonette, Rex Richardson, and Phil Woods. He has performed in master classes hosted by world-renowned groups and musicians including classical guitar virtuoso Christopher Parkening, lutenist Phillip Rukavina, and the Minneapolis Guitar Quartet.

In the spring of 2014, Martens recorded with saxophonist Grant Larson and his band in a marathon session lasting over six hours. The result was Passages, a collection of original compositions and a unique arrangement of the jazz standard “Yesterdays.” Martens holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Concordia College and a Master of Music degree from North Dakota State University, both in guitar performance. He has studied with classical guitarist Mike Coates and jazz guitarists Dan Phillips and Dale Bruning. Martens is a highly sought-after guitarist in the Fargo/Moorhead music community. He performs regularly with a number of well-known local groups including The Carluster Crumplebee Orchestra, Twelve Strings, and Kapeesh, and also works as a session musician.

The Galactic Cowboy Orchestra (GCO) is a unique and powerful musical ensemble that fuses an eclectic mix of original and traditional bluegrass-edged tunes with jazz and world/fusion elements. Their music is Chick Corea meets The Dixie Dregs meets A Prairie Home Companion. The mix ranges from known bluegrass tunes to extreme arrangements of East Indian ragas. GCO’s instrumentation includes guitar, fiddle, bass, and drums. The widely versatile instrumentals are accessible to music lovers of all ages! About the Galactic Cowboy Orchestra

Galactic Cowboy Orchestra was started in 2009 by founding member/bass player John Wright. The band was born out of a desire to play technically challenging music derived from John’s influences ranging from Mahavishnu Orchestra, The Dixie Dregs and King Crimson, to name a few. Wright enlisted the aid of guitarist Dan Neale, who brought to the table many deep Jazz influences in his advanced playing and composing style. Along with the band’s first drummer, Mark O’Day the beginnings of Galactic Cowboy Orchestra were found. Soon after, violinist (and John’s wife) Lisi Wright joined the band with her aggressive “electric guitar player plays violin” style and engaging stage presence to complete the band’s sound and look. Fast forward 12 years: 5 studio releases (and one live), two Downbeat Nominations, a Minnesota Arts Tour Grant, collaborations with symphony orchestras, thousands of miles of touring and the band is just getting started. 2021 sees the GCO with a new drummer in Mario Dawson, a new studio release and a stronger than ever ethic to create the ultimate musical moment between the players and the audience with their Art Rock/Jazz Fusion creations.
