Don’t miss the 2025 Detroit Lakes Pine to Palm Golf Tournament on August 11-17, 2025 at The Detroit Country Club (Pine to Palm Golf Course) in Detroit Lakes, MN. The Detroit Lakes Pine to Palm Golf Tournament is one of the largest and most prestigious golf tournaments in the Upper Midwest attracting contestants from more than 35 states. It is the premier golf tournament in the “lakes area” of Northwestern Minnesota. Pine to Palm Golf Tournament and VisitDetroitLakes.com..

Since 1931 the Pine to Palm Golf Tournament is held annually the second week of August with 450+ contestants in 5 Divisions (Championship; Mid Am; Seniors; Super Seniors and Numbered Flights.) In recent years, the Pine to Palm also has had a division for play on the Lakeview golf course, located across the county road from the Pine to Palm Course, which is an 18-hole layout that plays to a par of 31-33-64. The Pine to Palm course has a 36-35-71.

The Pine to Palm Golf Tournament, one of three so-called Minnesota “resort circuit” tourneys, is held annually at the Detroit Country Club’s Pine to Palm course.

History of the Detroit Lakes Pine to Palm Golf Tournament
First held in 1931, the Pine to Palm is the youngest of the three “resort circuit” tourneys, which also includes the Birchmont International at Bemidji and the Resorters at Alexandria. For the most part, the tournaments have been held in consecutive weeks, first the Birchmont, then the Resorters and then the Pine to Palm. Pat Sawyer, one of Minnesota’s leading amateur players at the time, won the Championship in the first two Pine to Palm Tournaments and defeated his brother (Dick) in the 1932 Championship Match. Sawyer bested Edgar Bolstad in the first Pine to Palm final in 1931 and Bolstad is also a familiar golf name in the state. Edgar’s brother (Les Bolstad) was a longtime head men’s golf coach at the University of Minnesota. The Pine to Palm Senior Division was added to the tournament in 1967 and has proven to be an increasingly more popular part of the tourney with each passing year. In 2009 the Mid Am Division was added for those 35 and older to compete within their age group. In 2010 the Super Senior Division provided some of the best competition amongst the 65 and over participants. Learn More

2025 Northwest Water Carnival in Detroit Lakes

Enjoy summer fun at the 89th Annual Northwest Water Carnival in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota on July 11-20, 2025 throughout town and on the City Beach. When it comes to celebrating summer, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota takes its time. The Jaycee-sponsored Northwest Water Carnival lasts an entire week or more in the heart of summer. A Jaycee member is selected to act as Admiral, residing over the extravaganza. One lucky girl is crowned Miss Northwest; she will later competes for the Miss Minnesota crown. Are you ready to watch the crash and bang of beater vehicles? There’s a demo derby for you. Water fights, kids’ games, music and food and more food – the Northwest Water Carnival has it all for you! An annual favorite is Bash on the Beach, where you and your friends have a blast with live bands on the shores of Little Detroit Lake on Friday and Saturday nights. The Parade of the Northwest is Sunday, July 20. The parade stretches a mile along Washington Avenue and West Lake Drive. The Fourth of July may be over, but in Detroit Lakes, the fun is just getting started.

About The Northwest Water Carnival in Detroit Lakes
The Detroit Lakes Jaycees sponsored the annual Northwest Water Carnival since they organized as a chapter in 1935. In fact, the Water Carnival is one of the longest running festivals in the state of Minnesota. It has become one of the biggest summer events in the lakes area, and includes a wide range of activities for the whole family. The first Water Carnival was held in 1935. It took several years to become established, and was even cancelled in 1937. However, it has been held every year since then. In its current format, it includes dozens of events such as the Miss Northwest Pageant at the Historical Holmes Theater, and concludes with everyone’s favorite: The Parade of the Northwest. About The Detroit Lakes Jaycees
The Detroit Lakes Jaycees is an all-volunteer civic organization. Led by the “Admiral,” the Jaycees work hard all year planning and coordinating the Water Carnival, which is supported by our area’s business community. After the parade, the Jaycees traditionally gather by the Pavilion to find out who will be the next Admiral. The Admiral is selected by the current Jaycee President to be in charge of the Water Carnival. The identity of the new Admiral is kept secret until after the Parade, and is the subject of much speculation by Jaycees past and present. Detroit Lakes Jaycees Website
