Here eastern deciduous hardwoods\, northern coniferous forests and western tallgrass prairie converge – creating a rich assemblage of both plants and animals.  Though the landscape has been altered by the influences of human history and past management\, the refuge remains largely intact with a functioning ecosystem and retains an untamed character for current visitors to enjoy\, use and respect. From the vibrant emergence of spring woodland wildflowers to the rich colors of autumn to the quiet hush of winter\, people come to revitalize their spirit and connect with a rich wildlife heritage. \nThe refuge is home to a large population of nesting trumpeter swans. Habitat conservation efforts address species such as the nearly threatened golden-winged warbler\, woodcock\, and ring-necked ducks. You’ll find Minnesota state icons including the common loon\, showy lady’s slipper\, red pine tree\, morel mushrooms\, wild rice and walleye. Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge website. \nAbout The Friends of Tamarac\nEstablished nearly 30 years ago this nonprofit group is made up of an active 10-15 member board and over 300 members. The Friends sponsor educational programs and events\, build observation platforms and pathways\, generate thousands of grant dollars for water quality and habitat projects\, host a popular nature photography contest\, and so much more. We are an advocate for wildlife refuges and passionate about protecting wild places for generations. The volunteers of Tamarac donated over 8\,000 hours of service just last year. It is held in early and mid-February with the plunge and fireworks on the last Saturday night of Polar Fest. Polar Fest was started in 1996 by Erika Johnson\, previous owner of Lakeside Tavern. She loved winter and wanted to see some sort of celebration of winter by the lake and outside her restaurant. Coincidentally\, Ron Zeman\, former Develop DL board member\, heard of people jumping into a hole in the lake to raise money for an organization. He took that idea to the Boys & Girls Club and the “Polar Fest Plunge” was born. Unfortunately\, in 2002 a lack of support left Polar Fest with only its key event\, the Polar Plunge. \nIn 2005\, a group of crazy\, winter-loving citizens came together to reinvigorate and warm up Polar Fest. Since then\, Polar Fest has since continued with the pinnacle event being the Polar Fest Plunge into Little Detroit Lake. However\, many other activities including golfing on the lake\, polar explorer presentations\, dances and more have been added. In 2008\, fireworks on the last Saturday evening were added\, becoming one of the highlights of the week-long winter celebration. Don’t we all need to hear some “feel good” songs again from a bygone era? The Fabulous Armadillos theme “Keep On Truckin” will do just that. We are bringing back some of those great AM Gold songs that played on our radios in the 70’s. Just hearing them will bring us to special time and place in our lives. Singer/songwriters Nathan “Nature” Nesje\, and Muggsy Lauer make up the core of the group with their slick\, well blended vocal harmonies. They are joined by composer/keyboardist George Maurer. \nThrough the years\, the band has performed not only their own music\, but expanded into a new genre: album shows. Starting in 2005 with performing The Beatles “Abbey Road” from first track to last (Come Together to Her Majesty)\, with special guest and semi-band member\, Stacy Bauer\, they jumped into one of their most ambitious projects\, The Beach Boys “Pet Sounds”. That album took an ensemble of over 15 musicians playing an astounding array of instruments from Theramin to timpani\, and included The Vees and The Half Steps. Other album projects have included Simon & Garfunkel “Bridge Over Troubled Water”\, Crosby\, Stills\, Nash & Young “Deja Vu”\, and The Band “The Last Waltz”. \nIf that wasn’t enough\, the group teamed up with The Fabulous Armadillos in 2010 to create a veritable “super group” and have been performing “Takin’ It To The Limit: A Tribute To Eagles”\, and “Takin’ It To The Streets: A Tribute To The Doobie Brothers” ever since. And if even that wasn’t enough\, members of Collective Unconscious have taken part in groups paying tribute to Zed Zeppelin\, Pink Floyd\, Paul McCartney and Wings\, The Guess Who\, The Traveling Wilburys\, George Harrison\, The Blues Brothers\, and John Lennon\, as well as performing in plays\, pit bands\, jazz ensembles\, jug bands\, and this thing we do each February. \nThe Fabulous Armadillos Website | The Fabulous Armadillos Facebook Page \n\n\nBest Hotels in Detroit Lakes\, Minnesota\nThe Lodge on Lake Detroit & The Spa Within\nBest Western Premier The Lodge On Lake Detroit\, a Lifestyle Lakefront Minnesota Hotel\, offers a great location and numerous amenities that make us the premier lakefront lodging destination for Historic Holmes Theatre attendees. SUMMARY:Dude Dad – Parents’ Night Out at the Historic Holmes Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Dude Dad – Parents’ Night Out at the Historic Holmes Theatre\nFebruary 21\, 2026 @ 8:00 pm – 9:30 pm\nSpecial Event Discounted Hotel Rate\nPurchase Holmes Theatre Tickets Online Separately\nGet ready for a night of laughter that is tailor‑made for parents)\, “Dude Dad – Parents’ Night Out” live on February 21 at the Historic Holmes Theatre in Detroit Lakes. This show offers parents in the Detroit Lakes area a rare chance to enjoy professional\, nationally touring comedy—while supporting a community partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Detroit Lakes that benefits local youth. \nTaylor Calmus\, best known as Dude Dad\, is a Colorado‑based comedian and video creator who has become a viral sensation by turning the everyday chaos of parenting into pitch‑perfect comedy. A husband to his wife Heidi and a father of four kids\, Taylor draws from real‑life family moments—sleep deprivation\, household projects gone wrong\, marital miscommunication\, and the noble struggle of “trying your best”—to deliver humor that feels honest\, relatable\, and wildly funny. \nWith millions of followers across YouTube\, Facebook\, Instagram\, TikTok\, and other platforms\, Dude Dad’s rise from a DIY YouTube vlog into a national touring act speaks to his unique ability to connect with audiences. His comedy doesn’t rely on shock or cynicism; instead\, it finds humor in shared experiences\, inviting parents to laugh at themselves and the beautifully messy reality of raising kids. \nParents’ Night Out is Dude Dad’s adults‑only live show—designed specifically for parents who’ve put the kids to bed and are ready for an evening that’s both cathartic and hilarious. Expect a fast‑paced\, story‑driven performance filled with stand‑up comedy\, crowd connection\, and behind‑the‑scenes reflections on marriage\, parenting\, and identity after kids. While the inspiration comes from family life\, the tone is distinctly for grown‑ups\, which is why this performance is strictly 18+. \nCall Hotel Direct at (218) 847-8439 or . . .\nBOOK HOTEL SPECIAL EVENT RATE ONLINEHolmes Theatre Tickets: $58 Adults & $48 Some Balcony\nRESERVE HOLMES THEATRE TICKETSAdditional Details\nHotel rate includes only your hotel accommodations\, event tickets sold directly online by the Historic Holmes Theatre. \nBest Western Rewards Points: Earn 10 Best Western Rewards® points per USD. \nAbout the Talent:\nUnderstanding the Real‑Family Dynamic of Dude Dad: What audiences see in Dude Dad is not a sitcom or sketch ensemble—it’s a real marriage\, real parenting\, and real stories\, filtered through a comedic lens. \nTaylor Calmus\, creator of Dude Dad\, began the project as a weekly vlog just before the birth of his first child\, intending it as a creative outlet during the early days of fatherhood. The response was immediate and organic\, as parents recognized their own lives in the moments being shared on screen. \nHis wife\, Heidi Calmus\, appears regularly but intentionally remains herself rather than a fictionalized character. With a background that includes stage performance and more than a decade of work in nonprofit and advocacy roles\, Heidi brings both presence and emotional credibility to the content. Many moments audiences recognize as “bits” are\, in reality\, heightened versions of genuine conversations or reactions. \nThis authenticity is central to why Dude Dad resonates. The humor isn’t built on punchlines alone—it’s built on recognition. Parents see themselves in the dynamic: the misunderstandings\, the teamwork\, the frustration\, and the deep affection that comes with raising kids together. \nFor live performances like Parents’ Night Out\, Taylor brings these experiences to the stage through stand‑up comedy and storytelling designed specifically for adult audiences. While family is at the heart of the material\, the show is intentionally 18+\, giving parents space to laugh openly at the parts of parenting that usually happen after the kids are asleep. In short\, Dude Dad works because the Calmuses aren’t acting like a family—they are one. \n\nBest Hotels in Detroit Lakes\, Minnesota\nThe Lodge on Lake Detroit & The Spa Within\nBest Western Premier The Lodge On Lake Detroit\, a Lifestyle Lakefront Minnesota Hotel\, offers a great location and numerous amenities that make us the premier lakefront lodging destination for Historic Holmes Theatre attendees. From there they expanded on to Simon & Garfunkel’s Bridge Over Troubled Water album (with strings and brass)\, CSNY’s Deja Vu album\, The Band’s The Last Waltz (with a cavalcade of guest performers)\, and the epically grand album from The Beach Boys Pet Sounds (with a multitude of multi-instrumentalists playing over 30 different instruments). \nEventually\, CU joined up with powerhouse The Fabulous Armadillos to perform a show called Takin’ It To The Limit: An Eagles Tribute\, which has been entertaining sold-out houses across the midwest ever since. \nCollective Unconscious Website | Collective Unconscious Facebook Page \n\n\nBest Hotels in Detroit Lakes\, Minnesota\nThe Lodge on Lake Detroit & The Spa Within\nBest Western Premier The Lodge On Lake Detroit\, a Lifestyle Lakefront Minnesota Hotel\, offers a great location and numerous amenities that make us the premier lakefront lodging destination for Historic Holmes Theatre attendees.
