Lots of snow and miles of trails equals a lot of great snowmobiling and cross-country skiing. By the way, don’t forget your skates, or fishing pole!

Snowmobile more than 200 miles of groomed trails in the Detroit Lakes area. Over 50 miles of cross country ski trails are available on public and private property. At 1500 feet, Detroit Mountain offers skiing and snowboarding, with 15 trails and five lifts.

Don’t let cold weather keep you from fishing! Fish houses and equipment are available for rent for winter ice fishing. Enjoy Detroit Lakes Winter fun and outdoor activities year-round.

Dunton Locks Ski Trails • 6.4 miles

Dunton Locks County Parks is nestled along the shores of Muskrat Lake and Lake Sallie. The park offers picnic shelters, fishing piers, a mechanical boat tram, a paved non-motorized recreation trail, as well as more rugged hiking, mountain biking trails.

Detroit Lakes Kent Freeman Arena • 2.9 miles

Detroit Lakes has two ice sheets; one has an 85′ x 195′ cement floor, 1500 seating capacity with sound system. The second is a practice sheet with an 85′ x 200′ cement floor. There are ten large dressing rooms available in the complex. The arena offers multi-recreational activities including: High School & Youth Hockey, Figure Skating Lessons & Shows, Open Skating, Old Timers Hockey, and International Hockey School. The Kent Freeman arena is the home of the International Hockey School that takes place in the summer months allowing boys and girls to learn to improve their hockey skills while also enjoying the beautiful lake area with their families.

People’s Park Skating Rink

Peoples Park has 7.1 acres and is located off Rossman Avenue at 1324 Peoples Street. This park has three outdoor ice skating rinks with warming house, basketball, pickle ball and volleyball court, horseshoe pits, picnic shelter and tables, gazebo, skateboard park and playground equipment. The picnic shelter has a kitchenette equipped with refrigerator and sink that is available to rent.

“We enjoyed our stay at The Lodge in Detroit Lakes, Mn. The staff was very helpful and very friendly. We stayed in the Resort Room adjoining to the Retreat Room. It was very nice for our family so we could have access to each others room and to have use of a Kitchen. We were celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary and our son was participating in the Pine to Palm Tournament. Nice location to golf course & downtown. The rooms were clean and the amenities of having a dock for our boat and use of paddle boat & Kayakes was especially nice. We enjoyed the complementary breakfast; especially the waffles and pancakes.  The Ice water cooler was very refreshing. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Lodge & will be back on any future trips to the Detroit Lakes area.”
