Enter the world of Pedal Punk, a Steampunk inspired place where cycling is the way to escape the technology obsessed society. In the Pedal Punk theater show we experience the excitement, artistry and thrill that occurs when a wacky bike shop mechanic interacts with cyclists and bikes. He repairs more than broken pieces. He creates wondrous machines and inspires the cyclist in all of us to become a Pedal Punk.

Time Out Theater review by Raven Snook says, “Decked out in Victorian hats, goggles, sleeve garters and meticulously groomed facial fair, the astoundingly fit and funny ensemble kicks classic acts into high gear by performing them on a custom-made, movable, pedal-powered scaffold set dubbed the Gantry Bike. Spoke-less wheels become hula hoops, a penny-farthing transforms into an aerial hoop, metal bars invite climbing and contortion, and, of course, unicycle and bicycle tricks abound. At the center of it all is a comical bike mechanic (Jan Damm, an amusing clown who’s also a whiz at the diabolo and the balancing board), whose eccentric clientele keeps him hopping around like a pedestrian caught in a bike lane.”

About Cirque Mechanics

In 1999, while working at Cirque du Soleil, Chris Lashua and Aloysia Gavre began experiments using an innovative aerial apparatus. This apparatus combined Chris’ German Wheel with a set of rollers and winch which allowed for Aloysia’s hoop to be lifted by the rotation of the large wheel. This Trolley device was the inspiration for the development of other machines that would showcase the relationships between the acrobatic and mechanical worlds.

In 2004, these machines became the center piece for a new theatrical work. Chris and Aloysia joined Sandra Feusi, Rex Camphuis, Sam Payne, and Steven Ragatz to work together on the creation of the 30th Anniversary production of the Pickle Family Circus which was produced by the Circus Center of San Francisco. This year end show which would become Birdhouse Factory, was our first collaborative effort.

Birdhouse Factory went on to tour for 10 years. In that time it visited over 10 countries on 5 continents. The success of Birdhouse Factory lead us to research and build other innovative man powered apparatus. These devices would become the signature of our touring theatrical shows. Generating content that can fill a large stage and still pack up and travel requires thoughtful planning. This creative problem solving has lead to the creation of devices even more perfectly suited for the event world.

This focus on these original contraptions, in addition to story telling, and high level acrobatics has remained the heart of what we do. We are thrilled to make use of our combined skills to tackle common issues, formulate innovative solutions and generate positive results for our event planner partners.

Cirque Mechanics inspired by modern circus, finds its roots in the mechanical and its heart in the stories of American industrial ingenuity. The shows, imbedded in realism, display a raw quality rarely found in modern circus. Cirque Mechanics signature style is wrapped in acrobatics, mechanical marvels and a bit of clowning around. This sensibility can be found in their five theatrical productions, “Birdhouse Factory”, “Boom Town”, “Pedal Punk”, “42ft” , and “Zephyr” and we are excited to bring this unique approach to circus to “Cirque Mechanics Under Canvas” our brand new tent project that we launched in the summer of 2022.

Enjoy the Fabulous Armadillos Party Band Winter Show at the Historic Holmes Theater, 806 Summit Ave, Detroit Lakes, MN on the evening of May 3, 2025 as they come together for the band to showcase its eight members vocally & instrumentally in a very wide genre of music from the 60s to Today! Join The Fabulous Armadillos for Acoust-i-Dillos 3! This theme has become so popular with audiences, The Dillos are bringing it back for a third time and they have a whole new crop of songs to add to the list! They aren’t going unplugged, but will be playing songs whose foundations were built from acoustic guitars.

Groups like America, Eagles, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Crosby, Stills, Nash And Young, Heart, Kansas, Boston, Led Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd all had great songs that were based on the acoustic guitar. Several artists like Jim Croce, Gordon Lightfoot, Simon and Garfunkel, John Denver, and James Taylor all made their mark with songs written around the acoustic guitar as well.

The Fabulous Armadillos came out of their shell in 2006 and have since established a large and loyal following in Minnesota and beyond with their spot on recreations of songs from many genres of music from Country to Motown to Heavy Metal to 70’s Soft Rock and play them just like you remember. Close your eyes and you are listening to all those vinyl records again or your AM/FM radio. The idea of the Fabulous Armadillos started with a diverse group of musicians who came together to perform “themed” concerts at the Pioneer Place On Fifth Theater in St. Cloud, MN. Themes like “One Hit Wonders”, “Woodstock”, “Motown”, “Singer/Songwriters”, “Stadium Rock” and more. They have now played 100’s of themes at that theater as well as many regional venues in the Midwest and even in Mexico! Each show gaining them new fans and enjoying their brand of fun and entertaining, yet musically spot on performances. They have brought hundreds of special guests in for their theme shows comprising of local and national talent. COME OUT OF YOUR SHELL and see what everybody has been talking about!

About the Talent:

The Fabulous Armadillos

Originally formed to perform multi-instrumentalist Jeff Engholm’s solo album, Summit Climb in the year 2000, Collective Unconscious has grown from those humble roots to become one of Minnesota’s premiere groups. Singer/songwriters Nathan “Nature” Nesje, and Muggsy Lauer make up the core of the group with their slick, well blended vocal harmonies. They are joined by composer/keyboardist George Maurer.

Through the years, the band has performed not only their own music, but expanded into a new genre: album shows. Starting in 2005 with performing The Beatles “Abbey Road” from first track to last (Come Together to Her Majesty), with special guest and semi-band member, Stacy Bauer, they jumped into one of their most ambitious projects, The Beach Boys “Pet Sounds”. That album took an ensemble of over 15 musicians playing an astounding array of instruments from Theramin to timpani, and included The Vees and The Half Steps. Other album projects have included Simon & Garfunkel “Bridge Over Troubled Water”, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young “Deja Vu”, and The Band “The Last Waltz”.

If that wasn’t enough, the group teamed up with The Fabulous Armadillos in 2010 to create a veritable “super group” and have been performing “Takin’ It To The Limit: A Tribute To Eagles”, and “Takin’ It To The Streets: A Tribute To The Doobie Brothers” ever since. And if even that wasn’t enough, members of Collective Unconscious have taken part in groups paying tribute to Zed Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Paul McCartney and Wings, The Guess Who, The Traveling Wilburys, George Harrison, The Blues Brothers, and John Lennon, as well as performing in plays, pit bands, jazz ensembles, jug bands, and this thing we do each February.

The Company has reenvisioned the Argentine dance of Malambo; taking what is a traditional Argentinian folkloric dance performed originally by Gauchos of the Pampas region and elevating it to a modern, avant-garde, and transgressive vision.

Will the club survive? Will the frogs ever get along? And will creativity finally save the day? All will be answered in this madcap musical based on Dav Pilkey’s irreverently hilarious book series.
