Cono Sur was founded in 1993, with the vision of producing premium, expressive and innovative wines conveying the spirit of the New World. Their name refers to the company's geographic position; it represents wines proudly made in South America's Southern Cone, on whose western edge lies Chile and its gifted wine valleys. Their quest is to present the world with the finest grape expression and character, from Chile's varied wine regions.

Using Renewable Resources to Produce Certifiec Organic Wines . . .

The farming of this wine was devised specifically to make efficient use of renewable resources, protect the environment and cause minimum impact to the surrounding ecological system, in line with best Sustainable Agriculture practices. Beginning with the 2009 vintage this wine will be certified organic, having passed the required three year transition period.

Award-Winning Winemakers Lead by Adolfo Hurtado

Eco-Friendly Wines - Cono Sur

Lead by General Manager and Chief Winemaker Adolfo Hurtado, Cono Sur\'s enological team has been recognized for their excellence and innovation invested in every Cono Sur wine.

Adolfo Hurtado studied Agronomy at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, so he could specialize in winemaking later on. In 1997 Adolfo joined Cono Sur, where he had to handle both vineyards and winery. He remembers that "Everything was at square one, but the base was already solid: Cono Sur would only make top quality wines." Afterwards, there was a sustainable sales increase, and 1998 was a good year. Adolfo's style was now evolving, and he was providing Cono Sur with a wide array of grape sources and varieties, which keeps on growing.

Adolfo has leaded Cono Sur into what it is today, one of the largest wineries in Chile and one of the largest producers of Pinot Noir in the world, in which environment concern and innovation policies work hand by hand when making top quality wines. According to him, "Cono Sur understands and has achieved the best versions of New World wines. Our products convey the taste of new wine regions, through the aromatic intensity of fruit and the elegant concentration of ever-fuller palates".

Adolfo's talent and passion was been worldly recognized:

  • Riedel Japan Award for Best White Winemaker 2008 - Japan Wine Challange
  • Chilean Wine Personality of the Year 2008 - Wines of Chile Awards 2008 (UK)
  • Winemaker of the Year 2007 - Vinbladet Magazine (Denmark)
  • Winemaker of the Year 2006 - Guía de Vinos de Chile 2006 (Chilean wine guide)
  • Winemaker of the Year 2002 - Cículo de Cronistas Gastronómicos de Chile (Chilean Gastronomic Feature Writers)
